Refresh Your Career
I have worked in real estate since college. I worked my way up through my company and then decided to take the leap and become a licensed agent. There have been a lot of ups and downs since then and I question my path all the time! Maybe it is time to go back to the office; especially in today’s world where food prices are only rising. However, if I do this, I’m significantly cutting down the amount of time I have to work on my passions. How do I decide which direction is right for me at this point in my life?
And how do you actually make the switch?
Committing to a Change
In order to start a new path, you first have to decide on a direction. If you plan on making a major change there may be some steps you have to complete first such as taking a class or receiving a certification. Checking these off the list before ending your current chapter can make the transition easier! I also recommend being in a comfortable financial situation in case the process takes longer than expected.
Being Open to New Experiences
Any new role is going to feel strange at first; that doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice. I find novelty exciting, but I understand it can be overwhelming for some people. Do your best to take the changes as they come because no one is expecting perfection the second you start something.
Bringing Your Full Self
No matter the role, the hiring managers or prospective clients want YOU! They think you can do the best job for their needs so don’t question whether they made the right decision or not. Use your unique abilities and you are irreplaceable!
Though I am not planning on completely changing my career any time soon, I have thought about it often. I wonder what I want my impact to be and where I would really be happiest and most useful. The most important thing to remember though is: you can always change your mind again! It may be intimidating but there’s no reason you have to stay in a job or career that doesn’t challenge or excite you.
