All the Things you Lose in Your 20’s

“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.” -Oprah Winfrey

Your Direction/Optimism

Your 20’s can be an overwhelming period of growth and change. It’s normal to feel like all of your plans are changing and everything that seemed so straightforward no longer feels that way. Let go of the vision of your future that you carry, grieve it, then allow life to take you where it wants; you’re going to end up there anyway. On that same thread, this is the time to try new things, or the things you’ve always wanted to. Your life is never going to go as you planned it, so when a door closes, try opening the one you thought you’d never be able to. There may be a whole other path behind it waiting for you.

Your Free Furniture

I don’t know about you, but when I first moved out I took every piece of free furniture I could get my hands on. Do you know how much a trash can costs?? But somewhere along the way you let some of these pieces go. They may be gone, but they aren’t forgotten.

Your Keys/Phone/Wallet

At least once in your life you are going to leave your keys, phone, or wallet somewhere it shouldn’t be. If you’re lucky, you’ll forget them at home. But our Now What? girls have left their belongings everywhere from a bench at a Pride parade to an empty penthouse apartment after a showing. It sucks; but it's bound to happen at some point.

Your Important Documents

In the same vein as losing your keys, it's very likely you will lose or destroy at least one important piece of documentation. This will hopefully be something easy, though possibly expensive, to fix. It’s a good idea to keep yourself knowledgeable on how to replace important documents such as passports and birth certificates.

A Singular AirPod/ The Least Convenient Thing to Lose

This is a personal pain for us here at Now What?. It’s Murthy’s law that you’re going to lose the one thing you don’t want to. Broke, in a new location, and running late, a singular AirPod fell out of Alexa’s ear and into the subway tracks. All she could do was stare as the man next to her whispered “oof that’s rough”. It was rough; but now I can look back and laugh? Maybe?

Your Friends

Not every relationship is meant to last forever. Through busy periods and growing pains, some relationships just dwindle. Wish the best for those who have left your life and be grateful for the friends and family who do stick it out while you grow into who you’re meant to be.

Through it all though, your 20’s are about finding yourself and becoming comfortable with the ever-changing nature of life. You lose some things, but you gain so much more!
